Bower Place has an exciting series of workshops organised for the first half of the year. We begin with a March workshop exploring how the NDIS is revolutionising service delivery in our industry.
The NDIS workshop will be followed in April by a 4-day training seminar on Positive Practices in Behavioural Suppport, focusing on the IABA Multi-elemental model.
This workshop will be presented by Gary W LaVigna, PhD, BCBA-D. It is aimed at practitioners and other professionals working with complex clients within the NDIS. Family members are also welcome to attend.

In this edition of Bower Place Bulletin, we also discuss how following the clinical session protocols prescribed by the Bower Place Method help practitioners engage with clients and reduce the risk of premature termination of the therapeutic relationship.
We also welcome a new Psychology Masters placement student, Shankari Wijendra, who will be supervised by Catherine Sanders. Shankari has partiular interests in trauma, attachment and Autism Spectrum Syndrome and you can read more about Shankari’s professional interests below.
The NDIS practice revolution
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) represents a revolution for all practitioners who work with NDIS clients, because it privileges the voice of the consumer within the service delivery system.
The days of paternalistic service delivery are numbered. For the first time anywhere in the world at this scale, under the NDIS clients sit at the centre of the system providing health and support services. This is a new way of thinking which shifts the locus of control from the practitioner to the client, challenging all those who are not used to working with clients and systemic colleagues in this way.
This Bower Place workshop will address the complexities of this change, explaining the protocols of practice required to privilege the voice of the consumer / client / patient.
